i usually make a point of not dorking out too much here. i’m making exceptions for this post and the last one because panter is cool.

on saturday i installed mac os X 10.3 on my home machine and today i installed it on my work machine. so far, i am quite happy with it. everything has gone off without a hitch. i have this machine servering pages with php and mysql again. getting back to a working state was almost entirely painless. it did take me a minute to figure out that i had to install php first before apache would start since i made reference to it in httpd.conf but . . . not a big issue. now i’m back and running.

so, backing up 10.2, formating, partitioning and installing 10.3 was smooth and that’s as it should be. that way i can concentrate on the cooler parts of the new os. first off, as everyone has mentioned, expose is nifty. in my mind its one of the few new interfaces i’ve seen in a while. it’s just neat, not needed, but neat. second, everything now has the brushed metal look and that leaves everything looking “clean.” the finder is speedier and better designed. it now sports a side bar with icons for most used locations. third, mail is improved. i haven’t played yet with all the threading but i have high expectations. so far though, i’ve just noticed a speed increase. in fact, the whole system seems faster.

okay, enough dorking out on my part. i have a new toy and it’s fun.
