habit, routine, repetition

just to shake things up, today i decided that i would not listen to my ipod on the bus. i would listen to the people, listen to the city. what i found is that i only noticed the repetition more. i noticed how the same people got on at the same spot. i noticed the girl with the red hat who always sits up front and talks with the driver and has one of the most beautiful smiles. there was blondie who always gets on in front of the tea shop by my old dentists. i’ve never seen her smile. when i got off the bus, i walked by the same guy i see every morning delivering papers. he recently bought a new honda element and i get the idea he’s kind of proud of it.
i like these things i witness every morning. there’s something calming about it. something soothing in knowing what comes next. it’s an easy way to slide into the day and well that’s important at 6:30 am.
