ten people died today when a suicide bomber drove his car into a checkpoint.
how many days start out with a headline like that on national public radio? five of seven? to be honest, i’m not sure. so many of my days start with a similar headline that i’ve lost track. i hardly even notice. that’s what scares me. we wake up and hear that some number of soldiers and some number of civilians have lost their lives in iraq today due to bombing, insurgency, whatever. the tones that we hear such news is now along the lines of a weather report.
i[’m worried about the momentum of the world right now. our country is spiraling towards more violence and lower world opinion. our environment is spiraling toward a warmer future (and let there be no mistake folks, there is a turning point past which global warming has no return). our momentum is now pushing us forward. the people in power are concerned with either staying in power or growning fortunes, usually both.
i still believe that the world is a good place and that people are more good than bad. but something has to change.
