oh by the way . . .

so, we have this neighbor kid who’s kinda funny. he’s sweet and nice and makes us laugh. he sent us a christmas card with a picture of rudolph plugged into the wall. you know, so he could charge up his nose. when becky was weeding the garden he just had to tell her all the scientific names for the weeds she was pulling. he was fascinated when worms ate our pine tree needle by needle. and he loves our cats.
sometimes he says the funniest things. yesterday he stopped over to say hello as becky and i arrived home after work. after asking about the cats and all he started to walk away and then turned around and said:
oh by the way, you know antonio? curly hair, rides a bike with pegs? he starts fires. with a lighter.
all i could think of was “well i’ll make sure to steer clear of him then. . . ” heh, it was so funny. especially that he started with “oh by the way” and i love that “with a lighter” was separate. i realized that to a kid, starting fires with a lighter was vastly different than starting fires with matches or a magnifying glass.
oh by the way, watch out for antonio.
