There is goodness in this world

Sometimes it helps to have a reminder. I'd like to have more reminders. Here is one for today.

I'm not much of a sports fan but I heard a story on the radio on my way in to work today that . . . well yes, it made me cry a little. A college basket ball player suffered a stroke but through a lot of hard work he worked back up to walking and getting back into school. After more hard work he was able to participate in the pre game lay up drills. Last weekend, the coach put him in to start. He played only a few seconds but it meant a great deal to everyone there.

With less than a minute left and up by a large margin the coach put the guy back in and the other team immediately called a time out. They came out and fouled the guy. He took his first free throw and missed. He made the second one.

The opposing team stopping to make sure they had a way to give this guy a shot. . . that's an example of goodness in this world. A great example of putting people first. . . and just giving a damn. It warms my heart.

Cory Weissman didn't get a chance to play much basketball before suffering a stroke during his freshman year at Gettysburg College. But as a senior, for at least one game, the ball was in his court.
