faithful readers, as you know, i switched jobs back in september. one of the best parts of that switch is the social aspect of the new locale. a couple of highlights are the daily trivia bouts, that end in a tie breaker death match in the event of a tie, and fast food fridays. this friday we’re going to Red’s Savoy for pizza.

so a coworker of mine and i got to thinking. we want to extend our st paul advocacy and have begun making a list. the list of the first restaurant crawl of west 7th and downtown st paul. i’m not sure yet if we’ll add some of our favorite west side dives. it’s a fun project though. the thing with st paul is that . . . well the people who live here love it. i once heard it said that st paul is about neighborhoods and minneapolis is about zip codes. now, i do think that there are some neighborhoods in minneapolis, but i think the feeling goes deeper across a wider range in st paul.

so as we build out the list and start writing up some of these favorite places, i’ll probably copy and post some of it here too. st paul represent!

one of the nice things my company does is encourage it’s employees to be in shape. i know, i know, the cynical side of me knows this is to keep health care costs as low as possible. but i admit i feel good about it. if i fill out a health assessment that will get me to think about how i’m living, i get a certain amount towards my insurance premiums. then, if i do these “online health coaches” i get another certain amount put into a flex spending account. not too bad.

now i know the idea of an online coach is pretty hokey, especially at first. but if there’s one thing i’ve learned about myself, it’s this. if i can find a way to track something online it becomes more like a game and a challenge. really it’s the only way i’ve found to motivate myself. so i take place in the president’s challenge, for example. i also keep track of my mileage for every single tank of gas which has led to me not only being a more economical driver, but also a safer driver.

so i know i’m a huge freakin nerd and that’s ok. with some work and some online tracking, i’ll be a healthier nerd.

it’s a new year. i’m back at work today. been here almost an hour but so far, i’ve not seen anyone. kind of makes it harder to really want to work on the first day back. oh well, they all stay later than i do. so far, i’ve been wading through the emails and such. resetting passwords so accounts don’t expire. that kind of thing.

i’ve decided that it’s time to give ical another shot on my mac at home. i’m excited about this spanning sync software. for now, i’ll have to use ical exchange, which isn’t as much what i’m looking for. i guess it’ll do for now though. i really like google calendar but i’d like the ability to use ical when it’s available. it does have a nice interface. i suppose i’d not have a problem if i was a .mac member. but who wants to pay that much for a .mac account. in fact, if i could i think i’d drop my 041178 domain and run my webpage off of my business but all my pic of the day links would break (i know, i should have done them smarter) and besides, i’ve had 041178 so long now that it’d be hard to switch.

oh well, it’s a new year. time to really get into it i guess.

at least i’m getting some movement on the stairs even if that’s all i can get.
